Martin Blundell

Martin started taking art seriously in high school with the encouragement of a disciplined art teacher. The teacher’s art classes were rigorous and demanding in pursuing fundamental art concepts, and a broad survey of art history. Martin became a high school sterling scholar and enrolled at the University of Utah. He was fortunate to be accepted into the honors program that allowed him to work closely with outstanding faculty members. Martin graduated with honors and a BFA in drawing and printmaking.

Upon graduation Martin began a career in illustration and design.

Since graduating Martin has shown in local and national juried shows and participated in solo and group exhibitions. He has received awards from the Utah Arts Council, Bountiful Davis Art Center, Utah Watercolor Society, Springville Museum of Art, and the Dixie State University Sears Museum. He is included in the University of Utah Marriott Library Notable Utah Artist Project.

Martin’s recent work is focused on the western landscape. These paintings are characterized by vibrant color, composition and design, executed with impasto brushwork and pallet knife application. His experience in printmaking has helped him organize the development of paintings, working from layer to layer, adjusting value contrasts, and monitoring surface textures. These paintings generally finish at the intersection of reality and memory.
